Anti Semitism And The Holocaust
From 1933-1939 there were many anti-Jewish rules put in place by Hitler. Hitler forced jews to wear the Star of David at all times and they also had to register themselves as Jewish citizens. But over time this turned to forcing Jewish people out of their homes and careers. He also prohibited Jews to marry non-Jews, and they lost their citizenship. Kristallnacht (Glass Night) was an important night that occurred on November 9th, 1938, it refers to the thousands of Jewish shops and synagogues that had their windows smashed and were burned, and also the book burning occurred. Many Jews were imprisoned, and this was a state sanctioned event. Josef Goebbels wanted to promote all aspects of Mein Kampf, and he was one of the most powerful people in the Nazi party. Jews were made out to be universal scapegoats. Originally the Jews were sent to work camps to do manual labour, but on July 1941, something known as the Final Solution came into play, and the extermination of the Jewish race was a priority. Shooting and burning them was not fast enough, so they turned to gas chambers to kill many of them at a time. The Einsatzgruppen was a group made up of cold blooded killers, and they are the ones who did all of these mass killings. 6 million jews were killed during the Holocaust.
